This product id a "DIY" build on demand item. It represents the paring of a power wheel designed to fit Dewalt 20V lithium ion battery packs, with the internals of the "Croc" KX3 Battery Pack, found elsewhere on this site.
The Dewalt 20V Lithium battery packs have the same 5S (5 cells in series ) configuration as the mediadogg Software "Croc" and "ninja" KX3 battery packs. Hence, the power regulation circuitry works perfectly with the ready-made power packs, originally designed to for power tools.
The resulting KX3 power packs is designed to safely deliver up to 45W at 3A , specifically for the Elecraft KX3 transceiver. It has internal RFI shielding and a built-in trickle charging port. Hence, the power tool battery pack can be safely charged, at a slow rate, using a standard 21V @ 1A lithium ion charger AC adapter in addition to the Dewalt chargers, which are designed for safe charging at a faster rate.
Using the Trickle Charge Port
- Under no circumstances should anything be plugged in other than a specified Lithium Ion Charger for 5S configuration, maximum voltage 21.3V, maximum amperage 1A.
- A specified charger has circuitry that regulates voltage, current and time of charge.
- Monitor the battery pack and voltage meters frequently while charging. When the pack reaches 21V, the charger should be disconnected. A specified charger will also stop charging at this point.
(Note: a suitable AC wall charger is available that has been tested with the KX3 power wheel accessory.)
